What should I avoid when buying carpet?

What to avoid:

• Olefin or polypropylene in stairs and traffic lanes (mats and crushes fast)
• Sample-only decisions – always see a 12 x 12 in the actual room light
• Padding upgrades you don't need (8 lb rebond is enough for most rooms)
• "Carpet only" quotes that exclude underpad, removal, or stair labour
• Installers without insurance or a written warranty on workmanship
