What is a good carpet on a budget?

Mid-grade polyester or PET cut-pile gives the best look-and-feel per dollar in Ottawa. Expect $5 to $6 per sq ft installed, including underpad and labour, with strong stain resistance and a soft feel. Rental properties get especially good value here.

Budget tips that don't hurt the result:

  • Polyester (PET) over budget olefin – similar price, better wear
  • 8 lb rebond underpad – the standard, no need to upgrade for bedrooms
  • Stick to mid-tone neutrals – cheaper to source and easier to live with
  • Skip premium pad and stain warranties unless pets and kids are heavy users

A budget carpet installed properly outlasts a premium one installed badly. The install is where the corners hurt most – we don't cut them.
